Stress measurement on rollerskis in the field

During their bachelor thesis at ZHAW in 2012 Hasan Arici and Mauro Nart captured stress and strain values on rollerskis and poles during field tests. The goal of this work was the compilation of locally occurring forces on a rollerski during an entire gliding and pushing cycle of different skating techniques and athlete performance levels.

Each rollerski was equipped with strain gauges and all digital data were collected during the field activity of the athletes.

These data are of great importance for the development of rollerskis, but also for planning specific training of involved (or related) muscle groups during the skating techniques.
